Young Sprouts Gardening
Young Sprouts Gardening. The Battery Park City Conservancy is once again hosting its gardening program which includes simple gardening projects appropriate for preschoolers. Activities include, planting seeds, watering the garden, and tasting fresh greens and vegetables. Everything is organically grown.
Your children will see a variety of plants, butterflies, insects, worms, and birds, and the part the play in the natural cycle of the garden. They will feel cool water on a hot day and the different textures of leaves and plants in the garden. They will smell herbs such as lemon verbena, dill, mint, and basil, as well as flowers such as, lavender, marigold, and scented geraniums.
Each week there will be a new, garden-themed lesson. Some of these lessons talk about pollinators, worms, seeds, weather, flowers, birds, and more. They’ll have fun in the garden doing plant scavenger hunts and reading nature books related to different themes. Come expose your children to these outdoor activities at a young age to develop a lifelong love of nature. Arrive on time, spaces is limited. We also ask that you please accompany your child here.
