West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge Groundbreaking Ceremony
On Tuesday, November 15th Battery Park City Authority, New York State and City Agency Partners, and local elected officials broke ground on West Thames Street pedestrian bridge. We are looking forward to this as a community to help families with more effective transportation in Lower Manhattan.
Scheduled for completion by mid-2018, the West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge will span 230 feet across West Street, from the northeast corner of the intersection of West Street and Joseph P. Ward Street to the southwest corner of Little West Street and West Thames Street. It will be a covered lenticular truss bridge with both an elevator and access stairway at each of the two terminus points, providing a permanent, direct pedestrian connection from the Financial District to Battery Park City, the Hudson River waterfront, and other local attractions.
The West Thames Street project will bridge the gap between Battery Park City and the Financial District. We can’t wait for what is to come in the future for Lower Manhattan!
