When I was pregnant for the first time, I was quite nervous to envision myself pushing a stroller in Manhattan. I had visions of road rage, NYC-sidewalk style and people pushing me and my newborn out of the way, in their rush to get to work. The day finally came that I could no longer stay in my little downtown apartment and I needed to get back into the land of the living. I needed to see people.
Well, it turns out a stroller is actually a confidence booster and it felt empowering to be with my stroller; it became my ally. And, the pedestrians that I encountered were much nicer than I had given them credit for. They not only moved out of my way, they actually smiled at me. It turned out to be a lot of fun to have a stroller and I soon realized it was the equivalent of taking a cute puppy out for a walk. It’s probably easier than walking a dog, because a baby just sleeps. Dogs are generally super social and want to meet everyone they are walking near. So, maybe that’s not such a good analogy. But, the point is, having a stroller is fun and it makes navigating the City easy, because you can load it up with your gear for the day and the opportunities for fun are endless, when you don’t have to go back home to restock. With my stroller, I learned you take water, snacks, wipes, coloring books and crayons and you are set.
The time has come for me to consider ditching a stroller or two and possibly holding onto the third, in case of emergencies. (To read the full article, click here).
