Things to Do Downtown and Around NYC for Winter Break

If you are a parent with children in school and school is closed for Winter Break, have no fear…you live in NYC where the City (and activities) never end. Check out some of these fun and unique spots with your kids.

CMA LogoChildren’s Museum of Art. This is a museum that offers members only hours and well worth the extra money to have early access, especially during Winter break. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Take the kids for a day of art, exploring, a fun ball pit and a quiet reading corner that little ones love. Members hours are from 10a – 12p the rest of the week. To learn about membership and prices, please visit http://cmany.org.

The National Museum of the American Indian.  This a great indoor spot to walk around with a stroller or let toddlers show their independence by strolling through this lovely museum without a stroller. They are showing some great kid-friendly movies and have amazing exhibits that kids will enjoy. Make a day of it but taking the kids on the Staten Island Ferry for an up close view of Lady Liberty and lunch at the concourse in Staten Island. Closed on Christmas Day. The Liberty Science Center. The museum is located in Jersey City, but if you know how to take the PATH train, then it is a super easy commute, even with a stroller. They are open on Christmas Eve, but closed on Christmas Day. Families can easily spend the entire day at this amazing and fun museum. Check out their site to learn about Bob the Builder and a special visit from NFL players. To learn more, please visit http://lsc.org.

GKids Movie ImageThe IFC Center.  They are hosting a two-week retrospective of GKids’ most popular shorts and full-length features. There are a ton of shows to choose from but our favorite is the film My Neighbor Totoro, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Some other favorites include A Cat in Paris and The Secret of Kells. Most films are for 5 and older but you can scroll the site for the full schedule and recommended ages. They are open on Christmas Eve, but closed on Christmas Day.

If you need to have the kids out of the house so Santa can wrap presents, this is a good, local excursion. For more information, please visit http://www.ifccenter.com.
