New York City is home to some incredible sites and iconic destinations, such as the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the World Trade Center and of course, Radio City Music Hall. As a resident of NYC for 15 years, the most common question that I get asked is “why do you live in New York City?”. I tend to rattle off the famous places, the fabulous food, Central Park, etc. But, my list of reasons never really explains why I call this city home and why I’m raising a family in the Big Apple. Until now.
My kids and I were invited to one of our favorite theaters in NYC, Radio City Music Hall, to get a sneak peak of the new show. The New York Spring Spectacular™ starring the Rockettes presented by Chase is essentially, a love letter to NYC. The show co-stars Emmy award winner Derek Hough, who is currently on Dancing with the Stars, as well as Laura Benanti, a Tony award winner and currently starring in the tv drama Nashville. The show takes the audience on a show stopping adventure throughout the City, with cameos from 50 Cent, Walt Frazier, Al Michaels, Kelly Ripa and Mariano Rivera, among a host of others. The New York Spring Spectacular™ is narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, who provides comic relief. Audience members will have a chance to see Paddington Bear and the Minions from Despicable Me. Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey are the voices of the New York Public Library lion statues. It’s an all-star cast that will appeal to all ages. The 3-D affects, video and theatrics make the show fun and entertaining and many times the audience is integrated into the story that is being told on stage.
The Rockettes are dazzling and continue to do what they do best. With their signature high kicks and beautiful costumes, it is a wonderful mix of contemporary music, sprinkled in with some nostalgia and ultimately, showcasing NYC in a truly spectacular fashion.
