Some Good Reminders As Your Kids Continue Summer Camp!

Some Good Reminders As Your Kids Continue Summer Camp!

Some Good Reminders As Your Kids Continue Summer Camp! Summer is in full swing and kids continue their Summer camp lifestyle! Here is a friendly reminder regarding certain health conditions to be considered. Did you know that one in 13 children in the U.S. live with food allergies? A common issue that causes many parents to worry about sending their children away. Whether it is eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soybeans, cow’s milk or wheat these common allergens maybe found in a camp’s dining hall.

 Caution should be taken, especially beyond mealtime and snack time. A number of hidden triggers can be found in other places around the campground, including latex, stinging and biting insects or medications in the infirmary. Because of these hazards, it’s important to always be prepared with an anaphylaxis action plan! You can do so by:
1.     Avoiding known allergens
2.     Knowing what symptoms to watch for
3.     Having access to two epinephrine auto-injectors, such as EpiPen® (epinephrine injection) Auto-Injector, at all times and;
4.     Seeking immediate emergency medical care if anaphylaxis occurs

Dr. Martha White, a nationally recognized pediatric and adult allergy specialist and founding board member of the Allergy & Asthma Network and spokesperson for EpiPen® and EpiPen Jr® (epinephrine injection) Auto-Injectors,  promotes this effective emergency treatment of life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). This treatment allows for preparedness during the summer months!

To help parents, kids and camp staff prepare for the upcoming camp season, Mylan Specialty has created Navigating Summer Camp with Life-threatening (Severe) Allergies, a new tip sheet telling you what you need to know for wherever you may go at camp (see above).
