National Museum Day!

In honor of the free admission at the Smithsonian, people all over the country can enjoy a free day at a museum near them on September 29, 2012! Smithsonian Magazine is sponsoring Museum Day Live!, in which participating museums will admit up to 2 people per household for FREE on that day. So, mark your calendars NOW and order your ticket so your family can take advantage of this great deal!

It’s a great idea to check out the FAQ’s as there are limits to how many free admissions a household can have and you need a special ticket to get in free. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/

One of the FiDi’s most historicial landmarks and a participant in this great event is the Fraunces TavernĀ® Museum which is the site of George Washington’s farewell to his officers in 1783. The popular 18th century tavern also served as a meeting place for planning pre-Revolutionary War activities by the Sons of Liberty and hosted the Nation’s first Office of Foreign Affairs and the War Office. Today the Museum offers two historic period rooms and six additional Colonial, Revolutionary War, and Early American themed exhibits.
