School closings are posted on the Department of Education website (http://schools.nyc.gov/default.htm), announced on the TV and radio, and communicated on 311.  As we all know, NYC is resilient, so there has to be a significant amount of snow to prompt school closings. It’s also important to realize that 99.9% of the time, the decision is made in the early hours of the morning.
