National Poetry Month at Brookfield Place. Brooklyn’s Poet Laureate Tina Chang, nationally acclaimed spoken-word artist Mahogany Browne, and students from Third Street Music School will fill the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place with words and music as part of “Spring Poems & Songs: A Musical Celebration of Poetry Month,” a free event presented by Arts Brookfield during the month of April.
On Sunday, April 19th, Tina Chang will host an afternoon of live performances and interactive activities in the spectacular glass-vaulted atrium at Brookfield Place, which offers idyllic springtime views of the Hudson River. Both Browne and Chang, who in 2010 became Brooklyn’s first-ever female Poet Laureate, will perform their own work. In addition, local area public school students will read aloud their poetry, drawn on inspiration from New York City.
Before and after the performances, Poets House, the national poetry library and literary center, will host interactive poetry-making activities for kids and adults, inviting poets of all levels and all ages to tap into their inner bard.
