Holiday travel with kids. This can be a ton of fun and a ton hassle. Though, the memories always make holiday travel worth while. Some tricks we have learned along the way…
> Pack a “go-to” bag – also known as an emergency stash of fun. Shop at the dollar store and load up on crayons, writing pads, coloring books, sticker books and tiny plastic animals and figurines. The dollar store has these types of items in droves and the excitement of something new should buy you at least 10 minutes of quiet. And, don’t forget the books. Just pack the small ones that little hands can hold easily and be able to hold comfortably.
> Pack snacks – Cheerios and disposable pouches of apple sauce, yogurt, etc. Trail mix, fruit chews and Pirates Booty always go a long way on our trips.
> Get those Kid-friendly apps – download them on your smartphone may help the time go by quicker. Download apps now, before you hit the road. Some our favorites as well as our neighbors favorites, include: Let’s Play Football, Toca Train, Monkey Lunchbox, Cookie Doodle, Math Bingo, Disney Jr, Cars, Bubble Mania, Where’s My Perry?, Subway Surf, Where’s My Water & PBS Kids.
> Other essentials – snuggly bedtime friends, cuddly blankets, wipes for messes, extra change of clothes, water bottles and head phones if your kids are old enough. Don’t forget the Scavenger Hunt, which is sure to keep the older one’s entertained, at least for a few minutes.
MOST IMPORTANT…Don’t forget to do that last potty run before you head out, grab your charger(s), water bottle and an unopened wine bottle for your arrival!
