Flower Power: See What’s Blooming in NYC

13 places around the city where you can expect to see flowers! 

Spring is blooming in New York City, and gorgeous tulips, magnolias, and cherry blossoms are gracing New York botanical gardens, parks, and department store displays. As spring temperatures continue to rise, New Yorkers can expect bountiful blooms throughout the city–from Madison Square Park to The Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Here’s where you can expect to see flowers! 

New York Botanical Garden 
2900 Southern Blvd., Bronx, NY 10458
The New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx reports that magnolias and cherry blossoms are in full bloom. In addition, visitors can see the blooming Prunus Akebono, filling the garden with gorgeous arrays of pink flowers. The garden’s azalea forest is also beginning to bloom and should be reaching its peak in just a few weeks. 

Riverside Park Conservancy
475 Riverside Dr. Suite #455, New York, NY 10115
In Manhattan, magnolias, cherry blossoms, and tulips are in full bloom! Roses are beginning to bud and should begin to bloom very soon. 

Madison Square Park Conservancy
Eleven Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10010
Currently, thousands of tulips are in bloom at Madison Square Park Conservancy! The park has an estimated 10,000 spring blooming bulbs this season, including many varieties of Triumph and Darwin Impression tulips. Also, Yoshino cherry trees and peach trees are in full bloom. 

Brooklyn Botanic Garden
990 Washington Ave, Brooklyn, New York 11225
In Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is seeing tulips and cherry blossoms in bloom. The cherry blossoms in the Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk are in full bloom. Many of the garden’s magnolias have reached peak bloom, however, late-blooming magnolias are still blooming, with yellow magnolias soon to begin blooming. 

Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery
500 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232
Currently, the Yoshino and Higan cherries are blooming, but flower buds from Japanese flowering cherries (Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’) are beginning to open. Tulips at Greenwood are also in bloom, with magnolias finished blooming and past peak.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir Bridle Path
Btw. 86th & 96th Sts., Manhattan, NY, 10128
Early and mid-April are the optimal times to find a stunning display of cherry blossoms in bloom along the reservoir. 

Pilgrim Hill
E. 72nd and Fifth
A popular winter spot for sledders, this is the perfect place to see Yoshino cherry trees in bloom in mid-April.

Swedish Cottage (Marionette Theater)
Park’s west side near 79th Street
Found on the park’s west side near 79th Street, this venue is famous for charming any time during the year, but especially during flower season! From mid-April to May, find the landscape dotted with tulips, daffodils, and other spring bulbs. 

Cherry Hill
Mid-park at 72nd Street
Cherry Hill’s name comes from the white and pink flowers that bloom on the gentle slope. Access it from mid-park at 72 Street.

Sakura Park
122nd St
Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom trees. At Sakura Park, you can find blooming cherry blossoms here all throughout mid-April. 

Grand Army Plaza
Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238
You can find early-blooming cherry trees, tulips, and daffodils in early spring at Grand Army Plaza. Later in the season, you will see Eastern redbuds, and pink, cherry blossom trees. 

LeFrak Center at Lakeside
171 East Dr, Brooklyn, NY 11225
The LeFrak Center at Lakeside boasts of beautiful spring displays of bright yellow and orange Witch Hazel. In April, visitors can see white blossoms from Chokeberry, Witch Alder, Serviceberry, and Foxglove Beardtongue. Towards the end of spring, flowering dogwoods and dewberries can be spotted.

Litchfield Villa
95 Prospect Park W, Brooklyn, NY 11215
In Prospect Park West, sits this stately pre-Civil War era mansion which features Carmen’s Garden, and an impressive display of tulips in April. In May, colorful pink and white blossoms can be found in the crabapple and hawthorn trees. Behind the building, visitors can see Korean dogwood trees with cream-colored flowers.
