Histoy of the annual Children’s Day in NYC
The inaugural Children’s Day took place at the World Trade Center in 1993, months after the February bombing of the WTC. Originally hosted by the Port Authority of NY & NJ, over 7,000 people attended that first year. Growing in vision and grandeur each year since, Children’s Day continued at the World Trade Center through 2001.
The dedication of some wonderful folks has ensured that New York’s kids would continue post-9/11 to have a day of free fun downtown. The South Street Seaport has provided a home for the event ever since 2001.
