Battery Dance Performance at the Schimmel Center - Limited Complimentary Tickets for FiDi Families

PARTNER

Battery Dance matinee performance will be presenting 3 works: On Foot, 8 Warriors and The Red Line.

The performance will open with the critically-acclaimed On Foot, a piece that was collaboratively choreographed in 2017 by Battery Dance dancers working under the direction of Jonathan Hollander.  This multimedia piece explores the arduous journey of refugees emigrating out of Syria and other countries in conflict and features live multimedia artwork by artist Kevork Mourad.  The Company derived inspiration for this work through its work in Germany with refugee youth, some of whom were unaccompanied minors, and taking to heart their stories and the incredible risks they took to find safety.

Performances will continue with 8 Warriors, a piece choreographed by students from Millennium High School, who participated on Battery’s Dancing to Connect program under the guidance of our teaching artists Bethany Mitchell and Tracy Dunbar. The students worked over 30 hours for the past month to create a piece of their own.

We close the performance with the world premiere of The Red Line, created by former Martha Graham Principal Dancer Tadej Brdnik and set to music by Syrian composer and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, who received a 2017 Grammy Award as a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. Please Note: There will be a Q&A with two of the artists before the first presentation.
