The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt
The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt. If you haven’t heard, the beautiful Fabergé public art display is visible throughout NYC and just in time for Easter. There are 260 larger than life eggs on display, each of which were designed by amazing artists, designers, architects and brands. Some of the highly regarded participants include Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel, Ralph Lauren, Zaha Hadid and many others. The Fabergé eggs are in each of the five boroughs and will be on display through April 17th. It’s a great way to introduce little kids to the art world and are truly awe-inspiring works of art. This public art display is also raising awareness for many charities including the conservation organization Elephant Family and Studio in a School, which introduces visual arts to NYC public school children.
The event is also taking advantage of social media. The general public is encouraged to participate in the Hunt by downloading a smartphone application, available via iTunes and Google Play, which can be used to reveal egg locations across the city. Checking in at each egg will enter hunters in a sweepstakes to win one of three gemstone pendants created by Fabergé.
Don’t despair if you are out of town for Spring Break. The entire exhibit will be on display (for free) at Rockefeller Center from April 18th – April 25th. And, there will be a live auction of some of the eggs to raise additional funds. More information on the auction can be found by visiting http://www.paddle8.com/auctions/bigegghunt
FiDi Families Insiders: Head to the South Street Seaport and check out several of these works of art. Hint: Cannon’s Walk is a great spot.
